spiritual healing. Though occasionally used as a synonym for psychotherapy, the phrase is properly confined to attempts to heal the whole personality by prayer and sacramental means. Among the methods in general use are
Unction and the laying on of
hands. The patient is generally encouraged also to make use of medical skill, though some hold that spiritual means alone should suffice. Spiritual healing (often called ‘faith healing’ or ‘divine healing’) has a prominent part in modern
Pentecostalism and in the
Charismatic Renewal Movement.
