Viret, Pierre

Viret, Pierre (1511–71), Reformer of W. Switzerland. He was ordained by G. Farel in 1531 and helped him establish the Reformation in Geneva and in Canton Vaud. He was in charge of the Lausanne Church from 1537 to 1559, when he was expelled because of a quarrel over Church discipline. He later played a leading part in the affairs of the French Reformed Church.
