SPG. The ‘Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in foreign parts’. It was founded in 1701 by T. Bray and others to provide the ministrations of the C of E for British people overseas and to evangelize the non-Christian races subject to the Crown. In 1965 it joined with the UMCA to form the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG).
