Peshitta. The official text of the Bible in Syriac–speaking Christian lands from the early 5th cent. The NT may have been the work of Rabbula, Bp. of Edessa from 412 to 435, but was probably begun before the end of the 4th cent. It did not include Rev., 2 Pet., 2 and 3 Jn., and Jude. The origins of the OT are obscure, but in part it seems to be the work of Jews.
