Paul of Thebes, St

Paul of Thebes, St (d. c.340), traditionally the first Christian hermit. He apparently fled to the desert in the Decian persecution (249–51). St Antony is said to have visited him when he was 113 years old, and later to have buried him. Feast day, 15 Jan.
