‘P’. A symbol used by scholars who follow the ‘documentary hypothesis’ of the origin of the
Pentateuch to denote the ‘Priestly source’. It is marked by a preponderance of ritual and ceremonial enactments over narrative and the avoidance of anthropomorphic ideas of God.
