Notes of the Church. The four characteristic marks of the Church, first enumerated in the so-called Nicene Creed, i.e. one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. At the time of the Reformation RC theologians began to utilize them to discern the true Church among the rival Christian Communions. The Tractarians employed them to demonstrate the Catholicity of the C of E.
