Joshua, Book of.

Joshua, Book of. This OT Book traces the history of the Israelites from the death of Moses to that of his successor, Joshua, and reports the entry into and conquest of Palestine, its partition among the twelve tribes, and Joshua's last speeches. Though some of its sources may go back to the 9th cent. BC, the Book probably did not reach its present form until the 6th cent. or later.
