Graham, ‘Billy’ ( William Franklin Graham) (1918– ), American evangelist. He experienced conversion at the age of 16 and entered the Southern
Baptist ministry in 1943. He began his first major evangelistic campaign in Los Angeles in 1949, and in 1950 the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association was formed. Thereafter he toured the world, becoming well known for his ‘stadium campaigns’ in which he addressed huge crowds. In later years he made full use of modern technology, including
broadcasting and satellite links.
