Fraticelli. Originally a term of contempt for heretical
Franciscans, it was applied to two groups, both mainly confined to Italy and extinct by 1500. The
Fraticelli de Paupere Vita were followers of Angelo Clareno (d. 1337); the
Fraticelli de Opinione, followers of Michael de Cesena (d. 1342), were organized as a Church with their own bishops, priests, and women preachers.
