Evangelium Veritatis (Lat., ‘The Gospel of Truth’). A Gnostic treatise included among the Coptic texts found at Nag Hammadi. It expounds the mission of Jesus as ‘the Word’ or ‘the Name’ of the Father and comments on His death and its significance. It includes some unusual features, such as the attribution of evil to Error, personified as a female figure. Some scholars have identified it with a work of this title referred to by Irenaeus as having been produced by the disciples of Valentinus. It is sometimes suggested that it was written by Valentinus himself.
