Ethelwold, St

Ethelwold, St (c.908–84), Bp. of Winchester from 963. With St Dunstan and St Oswald of Worcester, he effected the revival of English monasticism. The Regularis Concordia is partly, perhaps mainly, his work. He was probably also the author of an account of the monastic revival of his time, and was responsible for translating the Rule of St Benedict into English. Feast day, 1 Aug.
