English Hymnal, The. An Anglican hymnbook, published in 1906, which to some extent reflects the
Anglo-Catholic sympathies of those responsible for its production. In 1986 a revision, designed to meet the needs occasioned by liturgical changes and shifts in custom and feeling, was issued under the title
New English Hymnal. Both the original edition and the revision include some liturgical matter as well as hymns.
