Edward VI (1537–53), King of England from 1547. He was the son of
Henry VIII and Jane Seymour. Having delegated his royal authority to the Privy Council, he was of little account politically. His reign, however, was outstanding ecclesiastically for the many reforms and changes often forced upon the C of E by a government influenced by Continental Protestant theologians. It was marked by the issue of the
Injunctions of 1547, recognition of clerical marriage (1549) and by the Acts of
Uniformity passed in 1549 and 1552 imposing the First and then the Second BCP, and a new
Ordinal (1550).
