Ebionites, Gospel according to the. The name given by modern scholars to the Greek apocryphal Gospel supposed to have been used by the Ebionites. Epiphanius says that the Ebionites ‘receive the Gospel according to Matthew’ and ‘call it the Hebrew Gospel’. It cannot be identified with the canonical Mt., and its relationship, if any, to the ‘Gospel according to the Hebrews’ is unclear.
