Dioscorus

Dioscorus (d.454), Patr. of Alexandria from 444. He supported Eutyches and in 449 presided over the ‘Latrocinium’ at Ephesus, in which Flavian, Bp. of Constantinople, was deposed. After the reversal of imperial theological policy on the death of the Emp. Theodosius II in 450, Dioscorus was deposed at the Council of Chalcedon in 451 and banished by the secular authorities. He is accounted a saint in the Coptic Church; feast day, 4 Sept.
