Constitutional Church

The Concise Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church | 2000 | | © The Concise Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church 2000, originally published by Oxford University Press 2000. (Hide copyright information) Copyright

Constitutional Church. The State Church set up during the French Revolution by the Civil Constitution of the Clergy (1790). Its clergy were those who took the oath prescribed by the Constituent Assembly. The Constitutional Church was ended by the Concordat of 1801.
