Apiarius

Apiarius. A priest in proconsular Africa who was deposed for misconduct. The incident is important in connection with the growth of Papal jurisdiction. Apiarius appealed to Pope Zosimus (417–18), who ordered his reinstatement. A Council at Carthage in 419 then forbade appeals beyond the sea.
