Andrew, St, Apostle. He was the brother of St
Peter, and several incidents are recorded of him in the Gospels.
Eusebius states that he later went to Scythia. According to an unreliable tradition, he was crucified at Patras in Greece in 60. The earliest evidence for the form of the cross taking the shape of an X dates from the 10th cent. He is the patron saint of Scotland, Greece, and Russia. Feast day, 30 Nov.
