Acarie, Mme (1566–1618), Bl ‘Mary of the Incarnation’. Barbe Jeanne Avrillot, though anxious to join the
Poor Clares, in 1584 married Pierre Acarie. They had six children. Their house was a centre of charitable works and intense spirituality; Mme Acarie experienced visions and
ecstasies. She took part in establishing the first house of the Reformed
Carmelites in France in 1604. She also helped to bring the
Ursulines to Paris and supported P. de
Bérulle in the foundation of the
Oratorians. After her husband's death in 1613, she joined the Carmelites as a lay sister. Feast day, 18 Apr.
