lilies

lilies Symbols of beauty, in S. of S. (2: 1–2; 5: 13), where the flower referred to is probably a blue hyacinth. In one of the rare references to natural beauty in the NT, Jesus speaks of the glory of lilies (Matt. 6: 28–9), which probably denotes a variety of spring flowers of different colours, perhaps of crown anemones.
