judgement seat

judgement seat A tribunal, or judicial bench. Jesus was brought before Pilate who was seated on his judgement seat (Matt. 27: 19), at a place called, in Aramaic, Gabbatha (John 19: 13), probably in Herod's palace on the western hill of the city. A judgement seat has been excavated at Corinth, and this may have been used by Gallio (Acts 18: 12).
