grass Grass of the kind seen in the fields of northern Europe or on domestic lawns was unknown in Palestine, where the pasture that sprang up after the seasonal rains soon withered. Grass therefore became a symbol for the brevity of life (Isa. 40: 6 f.) especially for those with riches (Jas. 1: 10 f.; 1 Pet. 1: 24).
