gall Jesus on the cross was offered a drink of wine mixed with gall, a herb of intense bitterness which had the effect of dulling the senses. Jesus tasted the drink but did not consume it (Matt. 27: 34). Gall is used as a metaphor for bitter experience in Lam. 3: 19 and Acts 8: 23.
