epilepsy The account (Mark 9: 14–29) of Jesus' healing an epileptic boy accurately described an attack and its aftermath. The cause of the illness was held to be possession by a demon, though Matt. (17: 15) uses a Greek verb (seleniazetai) which means ‘moonstruck’.
