Jebusites Dwellers in an area in and around Jerusalem. Apart from the city itself, the principal stronghold, the land was occupied by Joshua (Josh. 11: 3). David (2 Sam. 5: 9) and Solomon (1 Kgs. 9: 20–1) completed the conquest and Jerusalem became the capital of the united Israelite kingdom under both these rulers. David bought some land from one of the Jebusite inhabitants, Araunah, on which to build an altar (2 Sam. 24: 18–24), and Solomon built the Temple (2 Chron. 3: 1) on the same site.
