Azotus

Azotus A city in northern Judah, just inland from the Mediterranean coast, formerly called Ashdod. It was held by the Hasmonean John Hyrcanus and later by Herod the Great. Philip is said to have visited the city (Acts 8: 40) after baptizing the Ethiopian eunuch.
