parallactic ellipse

parallactic ellipse The path on the sky of the apparent position of a star as seen from the Earth, due to the Earth's annual motion around the Sun. The shape of the parallactic ellipse ranges from a circle for a star at the ecliptic pole to a line for a star on the ecliptic. Its size depends on the distance of the star, becoming smaller with increasing distance.
