mean daily motion

mean daily motion (symbol n) The average movement of a body along its orbit in one day, usually expressed in degrees. The mean daily motion of a planet about the Sun can be accurately calculated from theory, but it can also be found by direct observation. For the Moon, ancient eclipse records extending back 2000 years or more have given us a very accurate value of its mean daily motion.
