l'Aigle meteorite shower A shower of 2000–3000 stony meteorites weighing 37 kg that fell near the village of l'Aigle, northern France, on 1803April26. A commission of the French Academy of Sciences, headed by J. -B.Biot, concluded that the meteorites were fragments of a single body that had entered the Earth's atmosphere from space. This was the first conclusive evidence that stones of extraterrestrial origin could fall from the sky. The meteorites were ordinary chondrites of L6 type.
