isothermal process A change or process that occurs at a constant temperature. During an isothermal process, energy enters or leaves the system to maintain a constant temperature. The collapse of a protostar down the Hayashi track, and the collapse of a star at the end of its life to become a white dwarf, are examples of isothermal changes. See also Adiabatic Process.
