flint glass

flint glass A basic type of optical glass, whose optical properties are modified by the addition of lead oxide and a smaller amount of potassium oxide. It usually has a refractive index of about 1.6, higher than that of the other basic type of optical glass, crown glass, and it is more easily scratched. Partly for this reason, flint glass is generally used as the inner component of a compound lens.
