extreme ultraviolet
extreme ultraviolet (EUV) A region of the spectrum between the ultraviolet and X-ray regions, covering the wavelengths 10–100 nm. The first EUV sources were detected by a telescope on the Apollo–Soyuz mission in 1975. The first survey of the EUV sky was carried out by
Rosat in 1990/91. The
Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer continued astronomy in this waveband.
