extreme Population I star A star belonging to the youngest stellar population, such as a T Tauri star, a star newly arrived on the zero-age main sequence, or a massive OB star with its associated H II region. Such stars have high metal abundances (similar to that of the Sun or greater). They are found in localized regions of the galactic disk, notably the spiral arms, where star formation has occurred very recently.
