cocoon star

cocoon star A star surrounded by a dense cloud of gas and dust which absorbs some of the star's radiant energy and re-emits it at infrared wavelengths. In extreme cases the star may be completely obscured optically, leaving only an infrared source. OH–IR sources are examples of cocoon stars.
