broad-band photometry

broad-band photometry A general term used to describe photometric measurements through filters with a bandwidth in the range 30–100 nm. Typical examples are Johnson photometry, Kron–Cousins RI photometry, RGU photometry, and the six-colour system. The advantage of broad-band photometry over intermediate-band or narrow-band photometry is that the wider filters pass more light so that fainter stars can be observed.
