bremsstrahlung
bremsstrahlung A class of radiation mechanisms in which a charged particle (normally an electron) is decelerated and loses energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. The deceleration may be either by electric fields (thermal bremsstrahlung; see
free–free transition) or by magnetic fields (
magnetobremsstrahlung). The name is German for ‘braking radiation’.
