A Dictionary of Astronomy | Date: 1997

achromatism Freedom from false colour (chromatic aberration) in an optical system. In reality, no optical system containing lenses can ever be completely free from false colour, but the aim is to reduce the amount of false colour to acceptable proportions. A mirror is completely achromatic.
