Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer

Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) A NASA satellite to perform an imaging survey of the sky at mid‐infrared wavelengths from 3.5 to 23 μm with a 0.4‐m telescope. WISE is expected to return over a million images containing information on objects ranging from asteroids to nearby brown dwarfs, planet‐forming disks around other stars, and ultra‐luminous galaxies. It will produce a reference catalogue of objects for the James Webb Space Telescope. WISE is due to be launched into polar orbit around the Earth in 2009 or 2010. http://wise.ssl.berkeley.edu/
