Vela pulsar

Vela pulsar A pulsar in the Vela Supernova Remnant; also known as PSR 0833–45. It has a period of 89 ms and is slowing down at a rate of 10.7 ns per day. The Vela pulsar is one of the youngest pulsars known, with a maximum age (spin-down age) of about 11 000 years, and one of the few to have been positively identified with a supernova remnant. In 1977 it was discovered to be flashing at visible wavelengths, making it the second known optical pulsar.
