Vela Supernova Remnant

Vela Supernova Remnant An extensive nebulosity over 5 ° wide in the constellation Vela, the remains of a supernova that exploded about 11 000 years ago. It lies about 1600 l.y. away, within the more extensive and much older Gum Nebula, and contains the Vela Pulsar, which is the collapsed core of the exploded star.
