SS Cygni

SS Cygni The brightest dwarf nova, varying from 8th to 12th magnitude, and lying about 500 l.y. away. It is a binary system, consisting of a main-sequence G star and a white dwarf. SS Cygni has an orbital period of 6.5 hours and undergoes an outburst every 50 days on average, but there is a large spread in the intervals.
