Lyrid meteors A meteor shower active from April16 to 25, with maximum on April22 from a radiant at RA 18h 04m, dec. +34°, southwest of Vega. In most years the shower is not particularly prolific, with a peak ZHR of 10–15. Short-lived outbursts were seen in 1922 and 1982. Lyrids are fast (geocentric velocity 49 km/s), with a fair proportion of bright events and meteors leaving persistent trains. The Lyrids are associated with Comet Thatcher (C/1861 G1). They are the oldest recorded meteor shower, seen by the Chinese in 687bc.
