Hellas Planitia

Hellas Planitia A circular lowland basin on Mars about 2200 km wide and 8 km deep, the site of an ancient impact, centred at −43° lat., 290°W long. Through Earth-based telescopes it frequently appears bright due to mists and cloud. The great dust storms that sometimes obscure the surface of Mars after perihelion often start from Hellas.
