Hat Creek Radio Observatory The radio observatory of the University of California at Berkeley, sited at an altitude of 1040 m at Cassel, California. The observatory was founded in 1960. It is the site of the Allen Telescope Array (ATA), consisting of 350 antennae of 6.1‐m diameter devoted to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). Hat Creek was previously the site of the Berkeley–Illinois–Maryland Association (BIMA) Array, moved in 2005 to become part of the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter‐wave Astronomy (CARMA).
