Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) A radio observatory in Gauteng Province, South Africa, 60 km northwest of Johannesburg, owned and operated by the South African government's National Research Foundation. HartRAO was established in 1975, taking over the facilities of a former NASA ground station which was used for tracking probes to the Moon and planets from 1961 to 1974.
