Gould, BenjaminApthorp

Gould, BenjaminApthorp (1824–96)Americanastronomer. In 1849 he founded the Astronomical Journal. In 1870 he moved to Argentina, founding the National Observatory at Córdoba, where he initiated the Córdoba Durchmusterung, a southern equivalent of the catalogue produced by F. W. A.Argelander for the northern stars. Gould's Belt is named after him.
