Dwingeloo galaxy A galaxy found in the Dwingeloo Obscured Galaxy Survey (DOGS), a radio sky survey using the 25-m radio telescope of the Dwingeloo Radio Observatory, Netherlands. The survey looks for 21-cm radiation from galaxies obscured from optical view by gas and dust in the plane of our own Galaxy. Dwingeloo 1, the first such galaxy found, in 1994, is a barred spiral about 10 million l.y. away, and is probably a member of a group associated with the Maffei Galaxies.
