Black Eye Galaxy The galaxy M64 (NGC 4826) in Coma Berenices. It is a 9th-magnitude Sb-type spiral with a dark lane of dust silhouetted against its nucleus, which gives the ‘black eye’ effect. Its distance is about 20 million l.y.
