Atacama Large Millimeter Array

Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) An aperture-synthesis array for millimetre- and submillimetre-wavelength astronomy being jointly built by the European Southern Observatory, the US National Radio Astronomy Observatory, and the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, at an altitude of 5000 m on the Chajnantor plateau of the Atacama desert in northern Chile. When complete, around the end of 2012, ALMA will consist of 64 12-m movable dishes distributed over an area up to 14 km across. http://www.eso.org/projects/alma/ http://www.alma.nrao.edu/
